MISS CUBAN-AMERICAN PAGEANT CALLS FOR CONTESTANTS

The Cuban-American Heritage Festival’s pageant committee has announced the date of the 2nd annual Miss Cuban–American Heritage pageant, and applications are now being accepted. This year’s event is sponsored by Florida Keys Community College, Historic Tours of America, El Meson De Pepe, All About You Salon, and David Brian Jewelry.

While the main event, the two-week Cuban-American Heritage Festival (CAHF), takes place June 13-22 2003, other pre-events such as the pageant and the February Cigar Dinner Gala are held throughout the year to help promote and the main event and to extend the festivities year-round.

This year, the Pageant will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2003 at the Wyndham Casa Marina Resort from 12-4pm. Along with meeting and seeing the beautiful contestants, guests attending the Pageant will also enjoy lunch, the Key West Comparsa Dancers and some of Key West’s liveliest musical entertainers.

The Pageant is open to women ages 16-25, who are of Cuban-American descent and are U.S. citizens. Applications are being accepted through September 13th, and prospective contestants are urged to apply early. Contestants are expected to participate in at least three pre-pageant meetings for fittings, information and rehearsal.

This year’s Queen will receive a two-year scholarship from Florida Keys Community College valued at $5000, a jeweled crown, round-trip air travel tickets and the honor of representing the CAHF with appearances in person, and in promotional publications.

“This event is an exciting and significant one because the lucky young lady crowned queen will reign at all annual events, representing the Festival and acting as a Spokeswoman for the Festival,” commented CAHF Director Chad Salinero.

Pageant applications may be obtained at Key West High School, at the CAHF Office, at FKCC “All About You Salon” in Island Center Plaza on North Roosevelt Boulevard, and they may be requested by calling 305-295-9665 For more information, call this number or visit the website at www.cubanfest.com
